The Witch Who Laughs changes the sound of a familiar encounter in Left 4 Dead 2. Her passive crying is replaced by sixteen laughs: eight for the sitting Witch and eight for the wandering Witch.

A change in atmosphere, not behaviour

The recordings have been remastered with matched loudness and smoother entrances and endings. Host-side playback cycles through a shuffled pool, avoids consecutive repeats and lets a laugh finish before a quiet gap.

The Witch’s AI, movement, attacks, pain sounds, music and models are left alone. The focus is the uneasy sound of hearing her nearby.

Playing with others

The host or server must run the mod for its controlled playback, and listeners need the audio assets. Subscribing as a client does not force the playback script onto an arbitrary remote server.
